With spring just around the corner and the end of school
coming up I often find myself having a hard time not thinking about summer. It seems
that as soon as the weather warms up every year comes the issue of spring
break. Is spring break really that important to students? Of course it is, we
as students work hard to get good grades and it’s always nice to have a break
from school. I think that BYU should give students a spring break because it
does not give us fewer days in school and serves as a morale booster to help
students finish the year strong. Many would argue that we get out of school earlier
than other schools because we don’t have a spring break. This is simply not
true According to the academic calendar for both BYU and local UVU, classes end
about the same time this semester. Classes for BYU end on April 16th,
and classes for UVU end on April 19th. That’s only a difference of 3
days and students at UVU still received a week long spring break from March 11th
to March 16. Both universities started class on the same day January 7th.
With that information it appears the spring break could easily be done and
would provide students with a necessary break before the end of school. I think
that we should receive a spring break because it does not increase the amount
of school days that we have and helps make students happier because they are
able to have a break from school.
Interesting perspective, I liked the fact that you compared our academic calendar to a comparable university (UVU) to bolster your argument.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you in terms of letting us have spring break. Also, using UVU as an example is great for making a point.
ReplyDeleteThe comparison basically blasts a lot of the arguments out of the water against spring break. The supposed "benefits" don't really stand when we look at it.
