This is the first research paper that I have ever written
and it’s definitely been a learning experience. I will admit that I haven’t
really enjoyed it because it seems to have no real purpose behind writing such
an extensive paper. Like I really feel like the hardest thing about writing
this paper was imaging someone wanting to read it. I just liked the other
papers more because they actually taught better communication but the research
paper is just copying someone else’s hard work, restating what it all means,
and giving them credit for it to some non-existent audience.
My research process has been long and is still going on. It
was hard to choose a topic just because 8-10 pages is pretty daunting and
really that’s a big commitment and it’s not something that I wanted to start
over on once I got going. I had to use the Research Starter Guide to pick a
topic that seemed to have enough sources on it. It’s been slightly frustrating
because like stated above; I don’t see the point to this in real life. It’s
also been easy though just because all I have to do is copy and explain the
obvious. Obviously I think it is useless. So far I’ve just researched on the
links provided by the library’s website. I’ve also looked on google when I just
needed information that was easier to digest. Next time I would just hope that
I don’t have an overlying theme like Globalization and then I can actually pick
an interesting topic instead of just picking something with a lot of sources
because I have to have something that relates to globalization.
I feel the same way about the theme of globalization and being able to have an interesting topic.
ReplyDeleteI have felt the same writing this paper, no new discoveries made. Maybe the only readers of our essay will be the forced, our peer reviewers and our teacher.
ReplyDeleteBummer--I wish globalization and the research paper were more enjoyable. but that's okay. I think I might sort of restate what I said to Adin, but focused on audience. You're totally right in that your audience for this paper will probably be fairly limited (peers & me), but hopefully the writing process helped you write better and think a little more deeply. And if not, do you think the key to writing a fun/enjoyable/interesting paper lies in total freedom to choose your topic? How would make the "research paper" a more accessible assignment?
ReplyDeleteMaybe this will be an incentive to focus on something involving globalization :-). I'm glad that I had to write a few of these things in high school, it's made a lot of the other writing easy to do. I can see ow there's a bit of a learning curve in writing something as long and complex as this.
